 LULULEMON SUPPORTS HOPEWELL

Thank you to the Lululemon Rideau Store for supporting Hopewell throughout the month of February! Lululemon created a window display with the theme "Choose a Positive Thought!" The display encouraged individuals to think positively about their bodies. In addition, Hopewell's website was displayed across the bottom of one of the windows in large letters. With nearly 400,000 individuals visiting the mall weekly, the display certainly helped us to spread the word about Hopewell!

TAKING A STAND AGAINST UNREALISTIC IDEALS

In support of the National Day of Action (organized by the Girls Action Foundation) on February 14th, which celebrates women and girls across the country, Hopewell organized the 'Real Beauty' Art Show. The Girls Action Foundation encourages girls and young women across the country to highlight an issue that is affecting them in their community and come up with an Action project. Hopewell chose to focus on the issue of society's perception of beauty.

We live in a society that requires that women be flawless in order to be beautiful. Not only does this leave us with a distorted view of beauty, but it also causes individuals to resort to drastic measures to achieve unrealistic body types. Hopewell aimed to challenge this narrow definition of beauty with the Real Beauty Art Show, held in the HeARTwood Gallery from February 1st-February 28th. The show celebrated real, natural beauty, in an effort to offset the unrealistically thin and unhealthy images associated with movies, magazines, and modeling.

In addition to organizing the Show, Hopewell's Green Goddesses created real life-size casts of their upper torso using Plaster of Paris. Once the casts were dry, the girls decorated the casts based on what "Real Beauty" means to them. Our hope was that the Art Show and the body casts put back into sight what's truly beautiful.

Thank you to all of the artists (including our Green Goddesses) for contributing pieces to the show!
